The Consultation and Collaboration
AFS and SJ Higgins have a strong relationship and history of jointly delivering
successful builds. The partners worked very closely to ensure the handover dates were met as each centre was due to open within a few days of each other.
Early consultation with SJ Higgins and WG Architects resulted in an exceptional design and engineering outcome for the project. AFS guided the client to a light weight steel framing solution which avoided many of the project challenges.
AFS also arranged a central point of contact for the client to streamline communications across the three sites.
AFS pre-fabricated light gauge steel frames meant that no storage was required on site and the frames could be easily manoeuvred or craned to the desired location, and installed immediately.
AFS carefully scheduled delivery times to meet crane times and site-based logistics while also avoiding peak traffic and school times. This ensured construction progress was not interrupted.
The Outcomesand Results
As AFS managed all three sites, SJ Higgins worked with a single subcontractor to deliver the three projects, which simplified manufacturing and logistics.
To ensure a seamless operation, AFS arranged a central point of contact for the client which provided sound results.
AFS staggered deliveries to accommodate the build sequence and complex logistics.
AFS pre-fabricated light weight frames solved several challenges including lack of storage on site. None was required as the frames could be temporarily placed on site, then craned or transported by foot ready for installation at the desired location.
Crane hire was therefore reduced, returning cost savings back to SJ Higgins.
AFS delivered the three projects on time, on budget, and ahead of schedule. The enrolled parents were able to commence care services for their young children at all three Early Learning Centres at the expected time.
